Back in January we ventured up to Malibu to do a double-date weekend at Thornhill Broome State Beach. Friday night we drove up (traffic was not kind) and met up with our friends from Ventura. It was a pretty funny thing trying to find this place in the dark, but we managed to find the campground and back up our cars to the sand, pop up the tents, and start a fire. We didn't anticipate the cold or more importantly, the WIND. Regardless, it made for an exciting weekend in the elements!
Waking up the next morning to the sunrise was one of the most beautiful and peaceful things I've experienced.
We put on decent clothes, zipped up our tents, and drove down to Malibu to have breakfast at Malibu Farm on the pier. We may not have looked the part (no big sunnies or expensive clothes), but I didn't care. I sat there and refilled my coffee probably about 10 times while we basked in the warm sun out on the patio of the restaurant.
After setting them back up, we had a couple hours to kill before making dinner so we pulled out our skateboards and messed around for a bit. They boys decided it was a good idea to use the wind to our advantage and go "kite-skating" with a tarp they found in one of the cars. They held up both ends of the tarp while on their skateboards, and literally FLEW down the road next to our site. Hey, when you have nothing better to do, you gotta get creative.
The sun started to set so we started our fire. Gotta keep warm!! To be honest I kind of forget what we made for dinner, but I do remember grilling some garlic bread AMAZING. We snuggled up in as many blankets and jackets as we could find, and watched a movie on a laptop.
The next morning we made coffee, had some breakfast, and sadly packed up our site. I don't think I had signal the entire trip, so it was really good to just get away and spend quality time with friends in the outdoors. Sometimes you soul really needs that.
We found some strangers to take our pictures with our polaroid camera. The pics weren't perfect but it made it that much more memorable.
It was an adventurous, budget-friendly, much needed weekend and we're already thinking of our next camping adventure. Maybe we'll get a roof-top tent and take Jordan's 4Runner (our new adventure car!!!).
the best adventures are ahead,
